Hope |
|
One proactive
School District in upstate New
York opened the hearts and minds
of their teens in grades 6 thru
12 with Legacy of
Hope® assemblies.
Afterwards, all students filled
out the Survey of Hope. The Survey
revealed that |
| 40%
of 10th graders and 38% of 11th
graders in the district reported
being depressed and desired a
support group to help. |
The
Survey of Hope Report they produced
included bar charts, graphs and
excellent use
of the statistical data. The Report
is now in the hands of grant makers
to provide the district
with needed funding.

New Character addresses
Critical Teen Issue |
|
| Susie added
‘ChristaLisa’ to the
array of characters in Legacy
of Hope® this spring. This
teenage soccer player is a composite
from the hundreds of conversations
Susie has had over the last two
years with teens all across America
dealing with: |
| 1.
|
The
loss of a grandparent who
was the primary positive
adult caretaker |
| 2. |
Parental
divorce and the grief and
anger teens may experience |
| 3. |
Gay
harassment leading to dire
consequences |
| 4. |
Support
Group Coaching for troubled
teens |
| 5. |
Self-mutilation
(cutting on themselves)
by teens to cope with feelings |
|
| LEGACY continues
to talk boldly to teens on real
life: |
| We
have observed an epidemic of teens
caught up in two current trends:
self-mutilation and oral sex.
Middle
school counselors in schools
from every social class report
to us that large numbers of
girls are readily engaged in
giving boys oral sex without
any sense of the dangers physically
or emotionally.
Teens are
listening as Legacy of Hope®
pulls no punches in illustrating
through character portrayals
and straight talk about the
addictive nature of self-mutilation
and the serious health and emotional
cost of irresponsible sexuality
of all kinds
We at Legacy
tie these choices to underlying
motives and how to make more
conscious choices.
Teens get why teens (and many
adults) make self-destructive
choices. They are learning how
to build self-respect, what
is character – how to
get it – why they never
got it, and how family histories
of alcoholism, drug addiction
and abuse have played a part
in their mistakes, shame and
blame, how to get a positive
attitude back! |
